Workers from the Ku-Huy Zaap Delta oil platforms, operated by Pemex, experienced moments of panic when they were attacked by armed modern pirates in the middle of the Campeche Sound. The criminals stripped the employees of money, cell phones, and essential equipment for the operation of the facilities. During the robberies, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday and Friday, the workers were violently subdued, with some even beaten.
Despite the attack, everyone was reported to be out of danger. After the incident, the workers were transferred to land for routine medical attention and to give statements to the relevant authorities, with the aim of initiating investigations into the robbery. Section 47 of the STPRM detailed that the threatened and robbed workers were already in Ciudad del Carmen, undergoing medical review and assessment in the relevant specialties.
So far, the total amount of what was stolen has not been specified, nor has the manner in which the criminals managed to board the platforms. Meanwhile, Pemex remains silent about the robberies, and the total amount stolen remains unclear. Although there are no responsible individuals arrested at this time, previous records indicate that the most recent robberies on oil platforms in the Campeche Sound date back to October 2024.
The first blow occurred on the satellite platform Ku-Hu, where five armed individuals subdued and beat two workers on guard, taking away expensive specialized equipment. One day later, the horror was repeated at Zaap Delta, leaving more employees under threat. Section 47 of the STPRM, through information provided on social media about the robberies, has demanded stricter security measures to prevent future incidents on offshore platforms.
